MMORPG. That stands for Massively Multiplayer Online RolePlaying Game.
A few months in my junior year in high school a friend told me about a game he was playing called Mabinogi. Mabinogi, or Mabi as the players so fondly call it, is a game from the Korea based MMORPG Company called NEXON. Even though the game itself is developed in Korea, it uses Celtic mythology as its basis for the races, monsters, and plotlines throughout the game.
The next night I made my character, though it took me an hour to go through different name combinations to finally get one that wasn’t already in use. I finally had a character; I named her Akira2011, my nickname and the year I was supposed to graduate. I gave her bright red hair and dark green eyes. There are so many different looks a single person can have, there’s even a tailoring skill where the character can make clothes, and special dye amps that you can use to change the color for an even completely different look! Of course, the dyes are more so like color roulette, a window pops up and you pick part of the item you want to dye, then there are 5 little wands that float over a tie dye picture and the arrangement of the color will differ every time you use a dye. So you pick the color you want with the middle wand and you simply have to hope it picks that color. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gotten pink, green, or purple instead of black and red.
Playing this game is more than just a simple game to me. The art in it is extraordinary, so is the story along with it. There are so many cool people to meet too. The game has taught me patience along with, “never back down from a fight”. It’s so much fun to play, but the only real downside is that if I don’t clean my computer right when I get off, it does bad things to it. And apparently I’m one of the few that that actually happens to. Go figure.
The video is of my character playing Red like Roses from RWBY.
